Our Client has requested us to redesign an existing Aged Care facility that houses the growing elder population in Australia in 2070. The Aged Care facility should include en-suite rooms, educational and activity rooms, offices, spaces for ambulant people and dining areas. The facility should accommodate needs for all types of disabilities and allow the elderly to enjoy their life in the housing.
The vision for this aged care facility is to provide a space for the elderly where they can flourish and enjoy their stay. For this to happen, the facility should feature indoor and outdoor spaces that allow the elderly to take advantage of the company of the other residents; as well as designing an area where the elderly can enjoy their own space.
The focus of this facility is to prevent depression in the residents. Depression is a reoccurring issue in aged care facilities, that leads to loneliness and anxiety. Therefore, measures will be taken to design the aged care facility to attend to the symptoms and signs of this health problem.
La Roue, meaning Wheel in French, will implement natural lighting and plants into the design. The conceptual idea for this facility will focus on the shape of a wheelchair wheel. Therefore, the design elements and principle incorporated within the facility will revolve around this concept. The Client wants our team to integrate sensorial components to the design, allowing the elderly feel connected and safe in this home away from home.
